WEST BLOOMFIELD — Kids will hit the jackpot when their parents roll the dice to raise money for the West Bloomfield School District.

The West Bloomfield Education Foundation, a charitable foundation that collects money and distributes it throughout the district, is hosting the second annual Casino Night at Edgewood Country Club in Commerce Township 7-11 p.m. Feb. 5.

The first Casino Night, held in 2015, topped 300 people, and organizers are expecting a larger crowd this year. Because of last year’s success — raising about $27,000 — the foundation has added more food, more games and more fun.

The WBEF has been raising money for the district since 2002, when the state began making drastic school funding cuts.

“It came together to support the schools and teachers. ... The whole point (of the foundation) is to give money back to the staff of West Bloomfield Schools to fund innovative programing,” said Kathy Sheiko, foundation secretary.

In addition to mini-grants for teachers, the WBEF has provided technology grants to each school and other districtwide grants, including the elementary school science kits.

“We’re raising money to give to the teachers to make West Bloomfield Schools a better learning environment for the kids and to give the teachers more tools to work with,” WBEF Chairman Aaron Fogarasi said.

The work of the foundation and the money raised not only make the teacher-student interaction better, but they improve the school district and provide better college preparation to the students, Fogarasi said.

So leave the kids at home and test your luck with popular casino games like blackjack, roulette, craps and bingo.

“There are going to be tons of prizes and great things to win for a very low entry fee,” Fogarasi said. “It’s a bargain night out, and it’s for a good cause.”
