Betfilter is specially designed to block and stop online gambling. The only blocking software available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

Several options are available for blocking a website. Consider one of the options below, depending on your needs.

Tip
  • An iPhone gives your child the ability to stay in touch with friends and family, stay entertained on the go, and access countless educational resources. But it also has the potential to expose youngsters to content that parents would rather they avoid. Thankfully, Apple includes a number of parental control options that allow parents to restrict adult or otherwise inappropriate content from.
  • One of the reasons why those gambling websites keep popping up on your iPad can be connected to the type of browser you are using. Some browsers primarily restrict or asks you before those websites pops up. However, for you to block those sites from disturbing you when browsing, follow the steps below. Launch the Settings app on your iPad.

The list below was created in the order of what we recommend the most.

Blocking a website on a router

Most home networks today have a network router for sharing an Internet connection between multiple devices and can even block websites. We recommend blocking a website through a router because it can be password protected, prevents blocks from being bypassed, and because it blocks all devices. Blocking on the router can prevent your children from accessing a page (e.g., Facebook) on the computer, and any cell phone or tablet connected to your home network.

To block a website on a router, connect to the home network router. For most routers, this is done by opening a browser and visiting the default router address: http://192.168.1.1

If this address does not work or you're having trouble accessing your router setup, visit the link below.

After connecting to the router, block a website through one of the below features. Unfortunately, each router setup is different, so you'll need to find one of the below settings for your manufacturer of the router. Generally, one of these options will be available under a 'Security,' 'Parental control,' or 'Firewall' tab or button.

  • URL Filter - Some routers may have a URL filter section, which allows you to enter the URL for each website you want to block.
  • Parental controls - New and more advanced routers have a section dedicated to parental controls, which gives you not only the option to block websites, but also specify the times the Internet can be accessed.
  • Firewall - Finally, if neither of the above options is available, the router should offer some type of filtering through the Firewall router settings.
Note

Although blocking a website on the router is one of the best ways to prevent access to websites, a child could still access the website through other means. They could connect to a neighbor's network if it's unprotected or use their cell phone's data service (e.g., 4G) to access the website. If you see any open networks in your neighborhood, try to educate your neighbors about the security vulnerabilities of leaving a network open.

Block a website using Family Safety

Note

Blocking a site using these steps only blocks the website on one computer. Any other computer, phone, or tablet connected to your home network can access the site you're blocking.

The new versions of Windows include a Family Safety feature that enable parents to set up usage rules, allowing them to control which websites their children view. If you're running Windows 7 or 8, open Family Safety from either the Windows Start menu or Start Screen. Type family and click the Family Safety or parental controls program in the search results.

Note

In Windows 10, parental controls are managed online through the Microsoft accounts website. User accounts that are a part of 'Your Family' can be managed through your online Microsoft account.

When open, you'll have a screen similar to the example below which gives you access to web filtering, time limits, logs, and the type of games that can be played.

Navigate to the proper directory using Windows Explorer. Double-click the hosts file. Choose Notepad from the list of programs to open the file and edit it in Notepad.

Find the line below:

Right underneath it, add the following lines (replacing badsite.com with the site you want to block):

Click File in the menu bar and select Save. Close the file. The site should be blocked in all web browsers and now instead of trying to access that site, the computer will redirect you to the localhost.

You can also block websites using a software firewall or a filter (such as a parent control Internet filter). Also, many antivirus software programs come with a firewall or have an option to obtain one from them. Filtering software may also be available through the same companies or could be obtained separately. To configure these pieces of software to block websites, you need to follow the instructions provided by the software vendor.

Pop-ups can be ads, notices, offers, or alerts that open in your current browser window, in a new window, or in another tab. Some pop-ups are third-party ads that use phishing tactics—like warnings or prizes—to trick you into believing they’re from Apple or another trusted company, so you’ll share personal or financial information. Or they might claim to offer free downloads, software updates, or plugins, to try to trick you into installing unwanted software.

Unless you’re confident of an ad’s legitimacy, you should avoid interacting with pop-ups or webpages that seem to take over your screen. Here are additional tips that can help you manage pop-ups and other unwanted interruptions.

Check and update your software

Always make sure you install the latest software updates for all your Apple products. Many software releases have important security updates and may include improvements that help control pop-ups.

The safest place to download apps for your Mac is the App Store. If you need third-party software for your Mac, and it isn’t available in the App Store, get it directly from the developer or another reliable source, rather than through an ad or link.

Check Safari settings and security preferences

Make sure Safari security settings are turned on, particularly Block Pop-ups—for pop-up windows—and the Fraudulent Website Warning.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Safari and turn on Block Pop-ups and Fraudulent Website Warning.

On your Mac, you can find these options in Safari > Preferences. The Websites tab includes options to block some or all pop-up windows, and you can turn on fraudulent site warnings in the Security tab.

Pop-ups and ads in Safari

If you see an annoying pop-up ad in Safari, you can go to the Search field and enter a new URL or search term to browse to a new site. If you don’t see the Search field on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap the top of the screen to make it appear.

Some pop-ups and ads have fake buttons that resemble the close button, so use caution if you try to close a pop-up or ad. If you're unsure, avoid interacting with the pop-up or ad and close the Safari window or tab.

On your Mac, you can also update your settings to prevent windows from opening again after you close Safari, or just press and hold the Shift key when you open Safari.

If you might have installed adware or other unwanted software on your Mac

If you see pop-ups on your Mac that just won’t go away, you might have inadvertently downloaded and installed adware (advertising-supported software) or other unwanted software. Certain third-party download sites might include programs that you don’t want with the software that you install.

If you think that you might have malware or adware on your Mac, update to the latest version of macOS. If your Mac is already running the latest version, restart it. macOS includes a built-in tool that removes known malware when you restart your Mac.

Check your Applications folder to see if you have any apps that you didn’t expect and uninstall them. You can also check the Extensions tab in Safari preferences to check if you installed any unnecessary extensions that you'd prefer to turn off. If you continue to see advertising or other unwanted programs on your Mac, contact Apple.
